At TrueCare, we believe your oral health is a critical part of your whole-person health. We understand that recent changes to Medi-Cal dental coverage may feel overwhelming. Our mission and culture are rooted in caring for you and your family at every age and stage, regardless of your ability to pay or immigration status..
Here is everything you need to know about the 2026 Medi-Cal dental coverage changes and how TrueCare can help you maintain your healthy smile.
What Medi-Cal Changes Took Place on Jan. 1, 2026?
As of January. 1, 2026, California has implemented an enrollment freeze for full-scope Medi-Cal for certain adults. Adults aged 19 and older with “unsatisfactory immigration status” (UIS), which includes undocumented individuals and some green card holders, can no longer enroll in full-scope Medi-Cal. Instead, new enrollments for individuals in this category will be for restricted-scope Medi-Cal.
Important: If you were already enrolled in full-scope Medi-Cal before the end of 2025, you will keep your current coverage as long as you complete your annual renewals on time.
Who is Not Affected: Children under 19 and pregnant individuals can still enroll in full-scope Medi-Cal for the first time, regardless of their immigration status.
What Changes in Dental Coverage are Coming on July 1, 2026?
A significant shift in dental benefits under Medi-Cal begins July 1, 2026: adults aged 19 and older with unsatisfactory immigration status will lose access to full dental benefits.
- Restricted Coverage: After this date, Medi-Cal will only cover emergency dental care (such as treatment for severe pain, infection, or necessary tooth removal) for this group.
- Act Now: If you currently have full Medi-Cal dental benefits, we strongly encourage you to schedule your cleanings, exams, and any necessary dental work before the July 1 deadline.
Your Options at TrueCare: We Are Still Your Dental Home
While insurance rules may change, TrueCare’s commitment to you does not. We are for the community, by the community, and we offer several ways to ensure you still get the dental care you deserve.
- Sliding Fee Scale: For patients without insurance or those whose coverage has been reduced, we offer a sliding fee scale based on your family size and income. This ensures that high-quality dental care remains affordable and accessible.
- Transparent Pricing: We believe in total care, transparent pricing, and zero surprises. You will always know the cost of your visit upfront, with no hidden fees for follow-ups or X-rays.
- Enrollment Assistance: Our friendly Program and Resource Specialists are available at no cost to help you navigate these changes. We can help you explore your options.
- Integrated Care: At TrueCare, we make it easy to manage your health by offering medical and dental services all in one place. You can even schedule your medical check-up and dental cleaning on the same day.
