TrueCare has been selected by the Prebys Foundation to receive two generous grants! One will help us support of the next generation of health care professionals and the other will fund expanded youth mental and behavioral health services.
Medical Assistant Pathway Grant
The Prebys Medical Assistant Pathway Grant will fund a collaborative initiative between MiraCosta and TrueCare that aims to establish a cohort of Medical Assistants (MAs). The program will encourage diversity and experience by providing externships for students pursuing a medical assistant career. The partnership will remove barriers and provide structural support for people choosing an MA career, while building a pipeline of trained MAs who have lived experiences and a passion for equity, inclusion, and whole-person patient care.
TrueCare and MiraCosta understand the complexities of educational journeys for youth from marginalized communities. The MA Pathway program will provide the framework for a diverse, culturally competent, and high-quality health care workforce.
Today’s health workforce pathway exists in silos, with a separation between educators and employers. This program bridges this gap by working together to match skills that graduates need to be qualified and competitive. TrueCare and MiraCosta will utilize the Prebys Foundation funding to support MA education costs, offer paid MA externships, and provide MA education supplies. In 15 months, students in the MA Pathway program will graduate with the necessary skills needed to embark on a fulfilling and successful health career.
Youth Mental and Behavioral Health Team-Based Care Grant
TrueCare was the only Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) chosen by Prebys Foundation for this grant! The grant expands access to TrueCare’s Behavioral Health (BH) providers and helps them utilize programs that have proven to help promote the mental well-being of youth.
TrueCare is dedicated to whole-person, patient-centered care, trailblazing the integrated behavioral health model in primary and pediatric care. By adding more evidence-based programs that focus on youth voice and family/community engagement, our care teams will be armed with an elevated capability for addressing social-emotional well-being and/or treatment at TrueCare. The target population benefitting from this grant will be youth (ages 6-26) who are identified as needing behavioral health support and diagnosed with depression and other mood disorders, anxiety disorders including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), youth with alcohol or substance-related disorders, or other mental disorders.
“Our communities are better thanks to the work of TrueCare,” said Grant Oliphant, CEO of Prebys Foundation. “This is why we are proud to invest $697,000 to their work advancing our shared vision for a vibrant and thriving region. We encourage others to support, learn more, and celebrate their work.”
