How Did You End Up Working at TrueCare?

Melissa said that working in the medical field is where her heart has always been, and she was interested in taking whatever opportunity was available to work in the industry.

“I wanted to do anything I could to get involved in the medical field, and I’ve just always wanted to help others. I guess you could say I’ve always had a passion for helping my community. That’s what led me to work here,” smiled Melissa.

Melissa said that what she loves about working at TrueCare is that everyone is valued, and everyone contributes to providing the quality of care the community deserves.

“Even just making an appointment for people or helping refill their medication is fulfilling because I know what that means for them and their health care journey,” smiled Melissa.

Melissa also said that working in the medical field runs in the family because her 18-year-old daughter wants to be a nurse.

“My daughter wants to be a nurse, and she inspires me, too, because of it. It makes me feel proud that my daughter actually wants to be in the same field, and it makes me feel like I’ve had something to do with her setting and reaching this goal of becoming a nurse,” said Melissa.

Still, Melissa said she has more goals she wants to accomplish at TrueCare, and leadership has been very supportive in helping her reach them.

“I want to be a medical assistant and be hands-on with the patients in the room and communicate more with them in that way, and I feel like I have a lot of support and encouragement here to make that possible. You can feel how invested they are in you from the moment you walk through the door,” said Melissa.

What Do You Like About Working at TrueCare Encinitas?

Melissa said that the surrounding area is a major perk and benefit of working at TrueCare Encinitas that she thinks all applicants should be aware of.

“I love working at the Encinitas location. It’s right down the street from the beach, and the community is really tight-knit. My patients know who I am, and I’ve been here for a while, so I’ve built some amazing relationships with these families. That’s really an important part of my role – I’m the first person they see when they start their health care journey or come in for an appointment. I set the tone that way,” smiled Melissa.

Ultimately, what Melissa said she likes the most about the TrueCare Encinitas location, however, is the community and her ability to help uplift them.

“I feel really connected to the community just by doing things like making appointments for them or answering their calls and questions. It makes me feel really good to give back to the community, and the organization really has strong and deep roots here now – it feels like we’re an important part of the local community, not just a provider,” reflected Melissa.

What Makes the TrueCare Encinitas Team Special or Unique?

When it comes to community, Melissa said that it’s also the internal TrueCare community that makes working at TrueCare Encinitas special.

“The team has all been here for a while, so we’re really close. We go for lunch and hang out after work, and just do a lot of things together. I like that we’re always texting each other back and forth, and it feels like one big family,” said Melissa.

As for who she would like to shout out for doing a great job and supporting her? Melissa did not hesitate to give some well-deserved kudos.

“I’d like to give Ellie a huge shout-out for being a sweet person! She’ll come to the front and just talk to me and get to know me. It helps me feel like I’m part of the team, and that kind of stuff brings everyone, from the front to the back, together,” said Melissa.

Melissa added that diversity, team-building, and celebration potlucks also make the location a special place to work.

“One thing I love about TrueCare is that you always feel like you can be yourself. For example, we do potlucks, and we can each bring whatever we want to cook to share with our team, and everyone’s always very welcoming and accepting. We really use food as a way to express ourselves and, no pun intended, bring our whole identities to the table. And everyone gets to eat good, too, because the food is all so delicious,” said Melissa.

What Was Your First Day Like at TrueCare?

Melissa said she remembers her first day on the job at TrueCare fondly, offering some seasoned advice for new team members experiencing the same first-day jitters.

“From what I remember, I was super nervous, but the team really made me feel welcome. It’s important to just show up, be yourself, and not try to be something you’re not. They’re all really great to work with, and they made me super excited when I started,” recalled Melissa.

What TrueCare Core Value Resonates the Most with You?

Melissa also took some time to consider the core values that are displayed all throughout the building and which aligns with her view of health care the most.

“I feel like even just smiling at patients and listening to their situation is so important – making them feel heard and just listening to why they’re coming to see us for health care and acknowledging them. It sounds simple, but just validating them is such a huge part of providing a positive health care experience. That’s where we start helping them. It’s about making them feel comfortable and feel that we actually care and want to help them get in, see a doctor, and start addressing whatever health issues they have,” said Melissa.
