TrueCare is proud to have recently convened a press conference at its Mission Mesa Clinic with U.S. Congressman Mike Levin and Senator Adam Schiff to underscore the critical importance of Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax credits in maintaining the affordability and stability of health care coverage across California. TrueCare CEO and Executive Director Michelle D. Gonzalez joined Senator Schiff and Congressman Levin to describe the devastating effects of these tax credits’ expiration, which has become a central issue in the ongoing federal government shutdown. Without congressional action to extend these critical tax credits, millions of Americans could face substantial premium increases, and hundreds of thousands of Californians could lose their health coverage.
As a federally-qualified health center overseen by the state and federal governments, participation in the political process is a necessity for TrueCare to advocate for policies that foster equity and access for the marginalized patients we serve. Through TrueCare’s mobilization around voter registration, legislative advocacy, and collaborations with elected officials by engaging the public in healthcare conversations such as with this press conference, our organizational mission of catalyzing for healthy and supported communities moves closer to reality.
Despite the rapidly-changing landscape of healthcare policy in California and across the United States, TrueCare’s Advocacy & Government Affairs team gladly serves as a translator of these developments to patients, staff, and TrueCare supporters and empowers them to exercise their right to participate and shape public policy.
