Embracing Diverse Needs & Expanding Access
Whether you are interested in community health center jobs in Encinitas or Carlsbad, the diversity of the surrounding location and the work you do at either location imbues every role with an extra dose of meaning.
“I think the coastal locations are really unique, especially the Encinitas site,” said Christina. “We’re the furthest south site, so we are getting a wide variety of patients from San Diego, from Tijuana, from like, you know, Del Mar areas—areas that you wouldn’t actually think of. It’s kind of interesting that a lot of times, they don’t really think Encinitas has a lot of patients that are low-income or need extra support, but those are the exact patients who need our attention because they can go unseen, unheard, and uncared for,” she explained.
This broad spectrum of patients challenges common misconceptions about the area, highlighting the diverse patient population you’ll have the privilege to serve. TrueCare proactively unearths hidden needs within these communities, often through partnerships with local churches, like one in Encinitas that serves a large Guatemalan community.
“We actually have quite a few churches in the neighborhood that really serve a broad portion of the community that we have the privilege of helping to support,” added Christina. “So we actually have some of our mobile units that go out to these churches to help serve. There’s a church in Encinitas, for example, that has a large Guatemalan population of patients that came to us, and we were able to help support and serve them, so that has been really great for our teams to be able to get out in the mobile units in the community. That’s the kind of work that we all love – actually being out in the community. Having that passion is basically a prerequisite for working here, to be honest,” she said.
Mobile units play a crucial role in extending our reach directly into these communities. We frequently deploy mobile units to churches to serve patients where they are, and our Encinitas health center even hosts a mobile dental unit on-site a couple of days a week.
“We’re able to park in our parking lot to provide this service, and then we also have behavioral health and chiropractic care at Encinitas, which are always full, so we really make an effort to provide the holistic care these communities deserve,” she said.
At our Oceanside location, our team also utilizes mobile units for outreach, further demonstrating TrueCare’s innovative approach to community presence.

Beyond the Health Center Walls: Holistic Community Engagement
Our commitment goes beyond immediate medical needs. TrueCare providers actively engage in targeted outreach, such as a provider serving women and teens at Casa de Amparo in San Marcos or partnering with churches to help their communities.
“What’s really amazing is that we are serving a lot of communities that we didn’t even know we were here, and we get from church referrals and things like that,” said Christina. “It’s a testament to how you can really amplify your impact by partnering with groups that share your vision, mission, and sense of purpose,” she reflected.
Christina says that these community events and partnerships are incredibly fulfilling, especially highlighting the amazing work our team has the privilege to do with Casa de Amparo.
“We do a lot of community events,” explained Christina. “We have one of our providers go to Casa de Amparo in San Marcos, for example, and they will serve the women’s community and teens there. We also have a behavioral health ‘chill skills’ program at the Encinitas location. It’s really for our teens who are 14 to 19 and might be suffering from anxiety or depression. It’s a 7-week course that we just started and were really excited to roll out – we have a member of our team there running it, and then there are all these resources that they’re giving them, like books, snacks, and other things to make it fun for teenagers to come in. That’s really important if you want to actually reach and positively influence kids that age. They have to enjoy it. We had our first class last week, and I’m ecstatic to say that it was a hit with the teens,” she added proudly.

Experience the Encinitas Lifestyle
Like many people at TrueCare, Christina grew up in the community she has dedicated herself to serving and uplifting, creating a stronger bond between her and the patients. She says the environment and vibe of the Encinitas community make work more enjoyable.
“I grew up in Encinitas, actually in Leucadia, so I know this area really well,” said Christina. “The vibe there is just really chill surfer. It’s actually really nice at lunchtime. There’s the beach, and we have a park that has a really nice view of the ocean on a hill. We’re able to take our breaks or just take our lunch up at the park. We also sometimes have team meetings there, and we sometimes have our one-on-ones up there at the park. There are also a lot of really great shops and food shops, and we just did the escape room in Encinitas with our teams after hours. So, yeah, there are a lot of eclectic, unique spots over there, and especially right now in the summertime, it’s just a nice vibe. Like, when you go out for lunch, it’s sunny, there are people everywhere, you know, barefoot, in shorts, or with surfboards. It’s a pretty special place to come into work every day because there are days it feels more like a vacation than being at work,” she smiled.
Ultimately, Christina believes that the serenity that is only possible when you are close to the ocean is the perfect yin to the yang of the hustle and bustle of day-to-day work, helping people who work at this location strike a great balance between the two.
“It’s a really great location,” added Christina. “We’re close to the beach, and it’s just a different vibe at this site. We’re able to serve a large portion of our patients while taking in the views, smells, and refreshing air of the ocean. What more could you ask for?” she said.

Carlsbad’s Serene Charm
Carlsbad, on the other hand, offers a similar laid-back vibe, but it’s more relaxed.
“The Carlsbad location is really quiet,” explained Christina. “For some people, that’s ideal – it really just depends on your temperament and disposition. We tend to get more unhoused patients in this area, but it’s the same thing as Encinitas in some ways because it has a really beachy vibe. We’re only a block or two away from the beach, so we sometimes take our staff meetings at the beach or just take a walk to get out of the office. But it’s still the same low-key kind of hippie surfer vibe in Carlsbad as well – you can’t go wrong with either,” she said.

Dynamic & Collaborative Team Environments
For Christina, the culture of collaboration that TrueCare has created in each location is what makes it special. It feels like a workplace unified by a shared mission.
“Our team dynamic at our sites is really great,” said Christina. “Carlsbad is a smaller site, and we have around six exam rooms and probably 12 people on site. Encinitas is a little bit bigger. We would have about 29 people if everybody were there, including about seven providers. But each site has a different vibe. Carlsbad is a little bit more chill and low-key, and Encinitas is a little bit more engaged – there’s more energy there, and they’re all about having fun. It’s not a bad thing. It’s just different,” she said.

Cultivating Morale & Professional Excellence
Team morale is paramount at TrueCare, and Christina said she really appreciates how much the organization cares about ensuring everyone is truly flourishing in their role, professionally, personally, and interpersonally.
“Both sites are super collaborative,” smiled Christina. “We’re care teams for each other’s sites, so we’re always reaching back and forth and trying to get patients in where we can get them in if needed, but it’s just a really great vibe overall. Both teams are really involved in team morale, and we do a lot of fun team events. Like, for example, it’s National Avocado Day, so everybody brought in an avocado or something to make guacamole. It’s stuff like that that makes the culture so special. We do a lot of team celebrations across both sites, and that’s something that’s really important to us on an organizational level,” she said.
