When you enter our Carlsbad community health center, you will notice several things, such as the warmth of the staff that greets you and the beachy vibe of the surrounding location, given our proximity to the beach. You will probably also notice that it is a smaller site with about six exam rooms and 12 people on site. Despite its smaller size, we’re able to have an immense impact on our community, thanks in large part to the fantastic team we have, which is committed to serving communities that are too often underserved. When you work at TrueCare’s Carlsbad health center, you won’t just provide care; you’ll actively shape the well-being of diverse communities. The team at our Carlsbad location actively serves a variety of patients, including those experiencing homelessness in the area.
This focus highlights the breadth of care challenges and opportunities at this location, underscoring TrueCare’s proactive approach to meeting unique community needs. Ultimately, this results in more fulfilling work.
“We actually have quite a few churches in the neighborhood that really serve a broad range of community members that we love supporting,” said Christina, “so we have some of our mobile units go out to these churches to help. These kinds of partnerships are pretty amazing to be a part of – it really brings you closer to those you’re helping.”
Another important part of the experience that comes with working at this location is that our dedication to the community extends beyond traditional clinical settings. When you work with our organization, you participate in holistic, meaningful community engagement.
“We do a lot of community events, which are really fun and rewarding,” said Christina. “For example, we have one of our providers go to Casa de Amparo in San Marcos and serve the women’s community over there, as well as the teens. We also have a Behavioral Chill Skills program that we have in Encinitas that Carlsbad patients go to as well. It’s really for our teens, who are 14 to 19 and might be suffering from mental health problems, like anxiety or depression. It’s a 7-week course that we just started. It’s a pretty amazing product, and there are all these resources that we give them, like books and snacks. The goal is that we want it to be fun for the teenagers so that they want to come in. Our entire team has really come together to make that possible. It’s pretty amazing to be part of a unified movement like that. They’re new, but the classes so far have been a big hit with the teens,” she said.

“Carlsbad is located in a really quiet location,” explained Christina, “and it has a really beachy vibe. We’re only like a couple of blocks down from the beach. Sometimes, we’ll take our staff meetings and walk down to the beach just to kind of get out of the office. But it’s really nice, kind of a low-key hippie vibe. People sometimes are hesitant to work out here because they think it’s far or disconnected from the city, but it’s a lot more accessible than a lot of people realize. That’s something that’s important to understand.”

“Carlsbad is a little more chill,” said Christina, “and we’re all about having fun and building team morale. Here, everything is about being collaborative. That’s a big part of what makes working here special, and it’s important that you have that same attitude.”
Still, Christina said that while Carlsbad is on the smaller side of our sites, it is not disconnected from the larger mission of the organization, and it is anything but siloed.
“We’re care teams for each other’s sites,” explained Christina, “so we’re always reaching out back and forth and trying to get patients in where we can get them if needed. We’re constantly communicating. It’s just a really great vibe overall. Both teams are really involved in team morale. We do a lot of fun events like National Avocado Day, where everybody brings in an avocado or something to make guacamole. We just do a lot of team celebrations. That’s super important to us.”
Like all great leaders, Christina was also quick to give props to the providers at her sites.
“They all are really great and have really great attitudes,” smiled Christina, “and those attitudes make coming into work feel like more than a job. Everyone is really professional and is all about bringing up team morale and doing what’s best for the patients and staff – that selflessness and team-oriented approach is really important to succeeding here.”
This, ultimately, brings up another important consideration for prospective applicants like you: Who thrives at TrueCare Carlsbad? Well, Christina had some excellent insights.
“We’re always looking for strong, bright, communicative, and collaborative employees – it’s really important that you’re a team player,” explained Christina. “We really want someone who’s outgoing, energetic, and has a great attitude, a can-do-it attitude, and it’s really important that you care about our core values and understand that, first and foremost, we’re here for the patient, and we’re here for the community. You need to make sure that our values align with yours, and believing in our organization’s mission is non-negotiable. That’s the kind of thing we’re looking for in applicants,” she elaborated.

“We’re a forever-evolving organization, so there are always new positions and opportunities being added as we grow – we definitely have growth opportunities in that sense because you can always talk with your manager about transitioning and what that would look like for you inside the organization,” reflected Christina, “and then, once you’re in the company, there are opportunities at different sites once you have gained experience and understand the system to become a key player and grow your contributions to our mission. Internal mobility is really important. The reality is there are always opportunities for growth, whether you want to be a manager or grow your career in some other way, and we are here to support you in making that happen.”
