Imagine working in a location where the beach is a short walk away, you’re always within reach of the restorative Pacific breeze, and your passion for health care meets a vibrant, laid-back community atmosphere the same way the lurid sun meets the shimmering water when you’re watching the sun set over Moonlight State Beach. If that sounds like a Southern California dream, when you work at TrueCare Encinitas, you make that dream job a reality fit for a San Diego postcard. Still, what makes this such a special place to work extends beyond the serene, beachside scenery and surfer vibe that pervades. At TrueCare, every day offers a chance to make a profound difference in people’s lives and uplift communities. This mission is at the heart of everything we do, and our exceptional team lives and breathes it.
We’re excited to share insights from Christina Westcott, our Health Center Manager II for Encinitas and the resident “Big Sister” for the team, offering an authentic, firsthand perspective on what it’s like to be part of this exceptional team that is as committed to uplifting each other as they are to serving our community.
Why Work at TrueCare Encinitas? Making a Tangible Impact & Community Connection at Our Coastal Hub
When you work at TrueCare’s Encinitas health center, you have the unique opportunity to actively shape the well-being of diverse communities that are too often underserved.
“Encinitas is a unique site because it’s the furthest south TrueCare location,” explained Christina, “so we get a wide variety of patients from San Diego all the way down to Tijuana and even some of the Del Mar areas. It’s kind of interesting because we get patients from places you wouldn’t actually think. We’re able to serve a large population of patients that really need the care, and that’s what everyone on our team is in this field for.”
Christina also noted that working in Encinitas provides a unique perspective of the communities there, adding some gravity to their needs.
“It’s pretty interesting,” added Christina, “because a lot of times they don’t really think Encinitas has a lot of patients that are low-income or need extra care. It puts things in perspective, shows how important the work we do is, and makes it more meaningful.”
Christina explained that their proactive partnerships with local organizations like churches really help reach these populations, and being able to collaborate with the community is a rewarding experience for everyone on the team.
“We have a lot of churches in the neighborhood that serve a wide range of the community that we need to help, and we have some of our mobile units go out to these churches to help serve,” elaborated Christina. “For example, there’s a church in Encinitas that has a large Guatemalan population of patients who came in, and we were able to help support them. That has been really great for our teams to be able to get out in the mobile units in the community. Coming together and connecting with the community is really rewarding, and it’s something our team says they enjoy quite a bit about the work we do,” she said.
This holistic community engagement is deeply ingrained in how TrueCare operates, with Christina noting that our care extends beyond the walls of our health center.
“We have the mobile unit on site a couple of days a week that we do dental for as well,” said Christina, “and that’s really important because quality health care is more than the bare minimum, and our entire team really prides itself on being able to provide comprehensive care. We also have behavioral health and chiropractic care at Encinitas. You’re really changing lives with that kind care, and our team knows it. It deepens our commitment to quality care and serving the community and makes the work more meaningful.”
Christina said that they do a lot of community activities to amplify their engagement and impact as well, and the reach is a testament to the trust they have built.
“We do a lot of community events to build trust and connect with the community we’re serving,” said Christina. “For example, we have a Behavioral Health Chill Skills program at Encinitas that Carlsbad patients even go to. This is a really amazing program that we’re excited to roll out. It’s for teens between 14 and 19 who might be dealing with anxiety or depression. It’s a cute 7-week course that we just started. We have one of our behavioral health gals there running it, and then we provide all these resources and snacks and other things to make it fun for teenagers to come. It’s been a big hit with the teens, which is a great feeling. Teens aren’t exactly the easiest customers to please,” she joked.

Live Your Best Life: The Perks of Working in Coastal San Diego
Nestled in the heart of the area, the Encinitas site is just a block or two back from the main drag with all the shops and restaurants, just a few blocks from the cliffs with gorgeous views, and a block away from the landmark Self-Realization Fellowship Temple Garden.
Christina is an Encinitas native, Leucadia to be specific, so she is familiar with the area, lifestyle, and the many perks of living in this quaint town. Ultimately, these perks enable you to live your best life when you work at TrueCare Encinitas.
“If you talk to anyone on our team, one thing everyone says is even if you don’t live in Encinitas, it’s a lot more accessible than it seems,” added Christina, “and everyone really loves the drive along the coastline and water. It feels like being on holiday in a resort town more than driving into work. That’s a huge perk you can’t really put a price on.”
This location, Christina says, is an integral part of the Encinitas site with big open windows that allow the sunlight to pour into the cozy but ample waiting room where our team greets each patient with a beaming warmth that competes with the Southern California sunshine.
Christina described the atmosphere in town as a “really chill surfer vibe,” and she said the team particularly likes the area during lunch time, saying that the location is almost like another team member – the ultimate morale-boosting cheerleader.
“We have the beach and a park with an overview of the ocean on a hill here,” elaborated Christina, “so we’re able to take our breaks or just take our lunch up at the park and have a team meeting. Sometimes, I’ll do one-on-ones up there at the park, so we’re overlooking the ocean. There are a lot of really great shops and places to get food, and we recently just did the Escape room in Encinitas with our teams after hours. It was really fun. We try to do fun stuff like that together as much as possible. There are really just a lot of eclectic and unique spots here, especially during the summertime. When you go out for lunch, it’s sunny, the weather’s perfect, and there are people everywhere in shorts, surfboards, or barefoot. It’s what you envision when you think about Southern California.”
Inside the health center and past the waiting room, you’ll find efficient offices, state-of-the-art exam rooms, a mini lab, and an MA station, with a separate upstairs for the break room and conference room.

Join a Thriving Team: Collaboration, Culture & Core Values
From the moment you set foot through the door, you will notice the energy from our thriving team, which has a friendly and fun vibe. Everyone knows each other well, and the laughter and smiles are contagious as they all joke with each other.
“It’s one of the rare good kinds of contagious,” laughed Christina, “and not the kind that you need treatment for. But if you do, you’re in the right place at a health center.”
Christina said that Encinitas is a little bigger than the Carlsbad location, and the dynamic and supportive team at this site is a little more engaged. She said everyone on the team has a really great attitude, and they’re really professional.
“Everyone here is all about having fun and boosting team morale and being collaborative,” said Christina. “That’s really important for anyone who wants to work here. But we’re not disconnected just because we’re a smaller, coastal location. We’re always reaching out to other sites and trying to get patients in where we can if needed – we’re care teams for each other. We’re all about supporting our team here,” she said.
Christina said that team morale is a top priority for the Encinitas location and there is always an effort to keep the team happy so that they can deliver the best care possible.
“We do a lot of fun events,” smiled Christina, “like when it’s National Avocado Day and everybody brings in an avocado or something to make guacamole. We also do a lot of team celebrations. When it’s someone’s birthday, we really try to celebrate them – we’ll decorate the office and their workspace and just let them know we care.”
As for who would thrive working at TrueCare Encinitas, Christina offered some great insight to prospective professionals like yourself.
“We’re always looking for strong, sharp, collaborative employees who are team players,” reflected Christina, “and we really want somebody that’s outgoing, energetic, and has a great, can-do-it attitude. We want people who are going to actively try to raise team morale. We also really care about our core values here, so it’s important for there to be alignment there. You have to be fully bought in and committed to our mission. We’re going to do what’s best for the patients and community at all costs, in every avenue, and at all times. That’s an important attitude to have if you want to succeed here.”
If you embody this patient-first mindset, share the same values, and are passionate about delivering compassionate, high-quality health care, you’ll find your purpose when you work at TrueCare Encinitas.

Advancement & Growth Opportunities at TrueCare Encinitas
As for opportunities for professional growth and career advancement when you work at TrueCare Encinitas, Christina said there are many.
“It’s important to understand our organization is constantly evolving, so we always have new positions being added,” said Christina, “and these are often growth opportunities for people who want to transition into something else or just gain more experience in certain areas. We have MA leads, MA supervisors, and panel coordinators, so there’s definitely opportunity for growth at our site. Then, once you’re in, there are opportunities at other sites after you’ve learned the system, gained experience, and have become a key player. If you’re interested in manager roles or even bigger positions, as those positions open up within TrueCare, those are opportunities for you, too.”
